                              BURKINA FASO, formerly known as Upper Volta, is a landlocked country in West Africa. Its neighbours are Benin, Ghana, Ivory Coast,Mali, Niger, and Togo. The country consists of extensive plains, low hills, high savannas, and a desert area in the north.            With a land area of 274,200 square kilometers and a population of 14 millions, it is also one of the most densely populated areas.. The capital city is Ouagadougou with Bobo Dioulasso being the other major city. French is the official language in Burkina Faso. Burkina Faso has over 60 ethnic groups, each with its own social and cultural distinction.               The GDP of Burkina is US$14.5 billion and is growing at 5.4% annually.            Agricultural production consists of subsistence foodstuffs, with the surplus being sold as cash crops. Surplus cotton, shea nuts, sesame, sugarcane and cashew  are exported, while sorghum, millet, corn (maize), peanuts (groundnuts), and rice are grown for local consumption. Fonio ( a crabgrass with seeds that are used as cereal), cassava, sweet potatoes, and beans are also grown. Stock raising, one of the principal sources of revenue, includes cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, donkeys, horses, and camels. Chickens, ducks, and guinea fowl are also raised. Most of Burkina Faso agricultural products are naturally Bio without pesticides.Â
